My name is Rae Mosher. In April 2012, my amazing and wonderful girl, Maya Bell, was born and my whole being changed to incorporate ‘mother’ into my bio descriptions – it now tops the list of “about me” qualities. In the photo with us is my smart, handsome, funny, and loving husband, Sean. In May 2015, Coltrane Bear rounded out our foursome. I am so lucky to have this family.
I have taught high school English since 2006, when I completed my Masters in Teaching, Before that, I was a waitress, and always will be, as I grew up in my family’s restaurant. I simultaneously love my job and am indignant about educational policy (especially in NC, where we live – 48th in teacher pay – at the moment) and the real life struggle of trying to pay our bills on the salaries of a teacher and a small, local business (my husband is self-employed). We could fix education if we required advanced degrees for teachers, paid them accordingly and treated them like professionals and experts in education.
For as long as I can remember, I have been happiest with myself when I write. For as long as I can remember, my writing has been sporadic and undisciplined. We always know what to do to be our best selves, but following through is not as easily done as said.
